A simple start to Wellness at Work:
The employee wellness program intends to encourage healthier lifestyle choices for employees, improve their knowledge and overall health, and ultimately produce changes in employee health that will result in healthcare cost savings for both the employer and the employee. The alarming trend towards rising healthcare costs, increased obesity rates, and lack of physical activity among children and adults have spurred the need to promote healthy lifestyles and control costs. Extensive research and studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of employee wellness programs as a tool for controlling costs. Studies indicate that effective employee wellness programs can save up to three dollars in healthcare costs for every dollar spent on wellness programs. That being said, there is no one size fits all approach to employee wellness programs. However, education and awareness are essential first steps in effectuating a change in your employees’ attitude towards health and wellness.

A simple start to Wellness at Work:
Worksite health promotion is an investment in your most important asset – your employees. While you may already be contributing to your employee’s health and wellness, offering healthy food choices for your employees at the workplace is an excellent addition to your initiative. Better nutrition is essential to a healthy lifestyle, and healthier employees can mean increased productivity, reduced sick days and fewer on-the-job accidents. Serving unhealthy food at staff lunches or offering high-fat and sugar-filled choices in vending machines or your employee cafeteria is detrimental to your employees’ health and wellness.
Healthy eating has proven to be an effective tool in slowing the growth of healthcare costs as well. Choosing healthier food options may reduce an employee’s chances of suffering from obesity-related diseases. While you can’t control what employees choose to eat, you can help steer them in the right direction by providing healthy options.
